Buca di Bacco introduction
Hotel Buca di Bacco is one of Positano's oldest establishments, having offered hospitality to visitors to the town since the early 1900's. The hotel's intriguing name, the "Tavern of Bacchus" is indicative of the hotel's origins as a hostelry, when it was frequented largely by those artists and intellectuals who, at the start of the 20th century, adopted Positano as their preferred summer residence.
Since that time, the Buca di Bacco has changed quite significantly; being gradually enlarged so as to provide attractive guest accommodation in addition to the superb local cuisine for which the tavern was originally known. Like the excellent food and wine, the enthusiasm of the proprietors has remained unchanged over the decades; passing intact from generation to generation so as to offer the same authentic hospitality which so appealed to the very first guests of the Buca di Bacco.
Buca d Bacco's well-appointed bedrooms are decorated in the classic Mediterranean style of the area's old coastal villas, with elegant items of antique furniture, hand-painted majolica floor tiles, and beautiful soft drapes. The majority of the rooms lead out on to a balcony or terrace with fabulous sea views.
The kitchen is still the pulsating heart of the Buca di Bacco; a magical place where once the owner's grandparents busily prepared a selection of simple local dishes for the first tourists arriving in Positano. Those same recipes are used today by Anna and Carla; the ladies responsible for the fabulous flavoursome cuisine which is served at the hotel's much loved restaurant.
