Paestum Amalfi Coast
One of the most important archaeological sites in the whole of Italy.
Originating at the start of the VI century B.C. as a coastal merchant town designed by Achei di Sibari, Paestum (signifying city of Poseidonia) is known for the presence of the remains of a number of Greek temples including the Temple of Neptune, which is the largest of the constructions; the Temple Italico dedicated to Juno, Jove and Minerva; and the Temple of Ceres, situated on the Via Sacra dedicated to Athena.
Also worth visiting: the National Museum, which houses all the remains found in the ancient city of Paestum and the Necropoli which were placed beyond the city walls.
